Crystal Willis, Co-Founder
I grew up in St. Henry Ohio, near Dayton. I was active throughout my entire life and made it a part of my life to continue. I played volleyball, ran track, played basketball and pretty much every sports imaginable up until college. At the University of Cincinati I played club volleyball as I pursued my degree in Exercise Science. I was unsure of the direction I wanted to take for the first 2 years of college, as I bounced back and forth from athletic trainer, to physical therapy, to exercise physiology; always knowing that I wanted to make an impact on peoples lives. After graduation I did an internship at a successful Speed and Conditioning training company based in Northern Virginia (also the place I meet Justin).
In May of ’08 I gave birth to my first child, Caleb. In June of ’10 I gave birth to our second child, Preston. It was inevitable that 2-3 hour workouts were no longer possible. I needed to get in a quick workout, or face it, a workout wouldn’t happen at all.
I have been doing CrossFit workouts for a little over 2 years now and will never go back to the “traditional” workouts ever again. I trained CrossFit style throughout my entire pregnancy (tapering down toward the end as much as needed).
Every day, the workout is different, which has eliminated the feeling of boredom. I also like the feeling of competition when working out with others in our “group” class. It gives me something to push for. Wish I had started CrossFitting sooner, could have saved myself from waisting countless hours at the gym doing exercises that were a waste of time.
